Within Stoke Park are two small lakes, the largest of which is Duchess Pond. It is used for angling and also supports several species of breeding bird which are scarce elsewhere in Bristol, for example, Reed Warbler and Reed Bunting; in addition, an Egyptian Goose was seen here in 2006.
The original pond was the last ornamental feature to be added to the landscape in 1768. It was infilled for the construction of the M32 motorway in 1968 but was recreated in a slightly adjusted position by the Stoke Park Restoration Trust between 1988 and 1996.
