Made in the Middle Ages, between the 7th and the 10th century completely destroyed in battle with Arabs and Byzantines from the 11th century, the city became a bishopric under the name of Ayas.Since the 1168 to 1346 Ayas belonged to the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. During this period, a famous trading port continues to be one land, one in Ayas two islands in the harbor fort was built. Ayas became an important harbour city of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. From the year 1266 until the year 1337 and has been destroyed several times attacked by Mamluks. Frequently collapsed and was reorganized.
