Old Bihar Assembly was build in 1920 which houses both upper and lower house of state Assembly. As it was old structure and had space issue, it was decided to build a new complex will be spread over an area of 5.57 lakh square feet with legislative complex covering 2.58 lakh square feet parallel to existing complex.

New Assembly complex is built on the line of Parliament with a Central Hall between the Upper and Lower Houses. It will have offices for the chief ministers, Speaker of the Assembly, Chairman of the Legislative Council, ministers and officers. There will be conventional centre, cafeteria and open green space. Foundation of Rs 139 crore new Assembly complex was laid by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on 26 Jan 2010. The new building, to be constructed near the old structure built in 1920, will be completed within two years.
