Bungla Maraba

Bungla Maraba is named after the adjacent rest house or "bungla" as it is known in Punjabi. It was settled by Mohammed Chandu and sons, and His brother Mohammed Nathu(died childless) of 329GB circa 1910, the area was mostly sandy desert . Chandu and his brother Nathu originally worked on Steam engines for British Indian Railways, and lived in Lehndi Paynee, Jagraon now in Modern Day Indian Punjab. They applied for and were allocated Land in the Village of 329GB, All the villages and the Fields had been marked out by the British Raj, after they had brought a vast network of irrigation canals to this part of the Punjab from the River Chenab. The villages were setlled by religion and caste, 329GB was All Muslim and Ar-Raiy, They were from the original settlers or pioneers for this area and village.
Circa 1920 after a marriage engagement broke down between one of Chandu's 4 sons and another Family in the Village, the other Villagers decided that they were going to kill, maim or chase off Chandu and his family. Chandu had a fiery personality and wasn't one to be bullied or pressurised. In the ensuing battle where Chandu and his family were outnumbered vastly, Fateh Mohammed Chandu's second eldest son seriously Maimed one of the other villagers and the battle abruptly stopped. Fateh Mohammed was sentenced by the Raj to 2 years in prison. Village life returned eventually to normal.
Chandu's son Fateh died after a short illness back in Jagraon in 1945 leaving a daughter Kareema Bibi and wife. The present day owners of land situated at Bungla Maraba are the offspring of Chandu's other 3 sons, Mohammed Habib, Mohammed Boota, And Atta Mohammed.
