Former BRIXMIS Mission House (1959-1990) during Cold War.

Site of the British Commanders'-in-Chief Mission to the Soviet Forces in Germany. This was a quasi diplomatic organization that sponsored a limited number of British troops the ability to travel around East Germany with few restrictions. The house was provided by the Soviet military and replaced an earlier compound that was attacked by an East German mob in 1958.

British reconnaissance tours would start in West Berlin, proceed to this mission house and then continue on to locations in East Germany. The purpose was to keep the peace through the monitoring of day to day East bloc activities and also collect other items of Cold War intelligence.
