www.panns.com The year was 1958. The Dodgers has just moved west from Brooklyn. Bill Wade was quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. Both teams played at the Coliseum. Crowds of 80,000 for either of their games were not unusual. Our mayor was Norris Paulsen, Dwight D. Eisenhower was President. The junior senator from Massachusetts was John F. Kennedy.
Our founders, George & Rena Poulos wanted to open a restaurant near the airport. Everyone knew LAX would grow and a location for a restaurant on the way to catch a flight would produce a steady stream of guests. They felt the island of La Cienega, La Tijera and Centinela Boulevards would be perfect.
They were right!

The growth of the coffee shop was proliferating. Throughout Los Angeles these restaurants were fast becoming known as the place where you could meet for breakfast lunch or diner. And they served more than just coffee! Coffee shops were not pretentious or formal. They were known for friendly service, antiseptically clean spaces and, most importantly, good honest food. This is exactly what they wanted... and more! They believed in the importance of a scrupulously clean restaurant that featured polite, courteous service and good honest food produced from the best products available.

As important was the unique exterior being immediately recognized as a restaurant. This "look" had to be so inviting that passersby would stop to try the restaurant because of its appearance. The noted architectural firm of Armet & Davis designed this freestanding restaurant which has been critically acclaimed and the winner of the prestigious Los Angeles Conservancy Preservation Award. Add attentive service, use only the highest quality products available and mix. This was the recipe for success.

We still adhere to the same principals today that our founders did 40 years ago.

When you order a steak you can be sure it will be USDA choice beef.
Order a malt or shake and we'll serve it with the "can".
You know the hamburger was made from fresh ground beef.
Our soups are homemade.
The onion rings are just the way we made them in 1958.
When guests suggested we add a senior's menu, we did it.
If it's time to update our menus we do that too.
We still greet you with a pleasant hello.
Please and Thank You are routine words in our vocabulary.
A sincere invitation to return to Pann's is always extended to everyone.
The entire crew is proud of the "A" grades we received from the Health Department.
The care and time spent in accomplishing this is an essential ingredient of our recipe for success. We are not attempting to reinvent the wheel. Providing great value, food and service has worked for us since 1958 - and that's something we will not change. We just want to make you happy!

Our efforts are working and the recipe is intact. Many of you have been dining at Pann's since we opened. It is not uncommon for some of you to have breakfast, lunch and dinner here on a daily basis. In addition, many employees have been with us since our beginnings. To our employees and to those guests that dine here...Thank You! We promise to keep up the hard work.

Sincerely, The Poulos Family
