Powder Mills Park offers a unique natural setting with steep hillsides, creekside meadows and wetlands that provide a variety of recreational activities. There is downhill skiing, hiking, a sand volleyball court, and trout fishing. The park also offers six lodges and four shelters all available to rent.

The enclosed lodges include stovetops, picnic tables, wood burning stoves, grills outside and bathrooms. The Powderhorn Lodge has an oven and refrigerator. The four open air shelters have picnic tables, a grill, and a bathroom nearby.

Powder Mills Park was once inhabitated by Seneca Native Americans. The great spring that used to feed the trout beds was called Beaver Meadows.

The sand volleyball court is recently taken down. There are numerous lodge building which have fireplace, stoves and electricity. The downhill ski slope is quite small, used mostly for beginner lessons. There is a rope tow, rentals are available. Only some hours are open to the public. In the winter the Powderhorn lodge is often open to the public for warming and hot chocolate because a local ski slope (currently Swain) handles lessons, rentals, snowmaking, etc. Crosscountry skiing is possible on the many hiking trails throughout the park. The trails vary from steep to gentle and all are picturesque. The Reidman Foundation currently operates the fish hatchery. Trout are released into nearby Irondiquoit creek. Each April 1st (start of trout season) there is a fishing derby. Soon, www.powdermillspark.com will have updated maps and other info available. County of Monroe info and links to a not very detailed map can be found at; http://www.monroecounty.gov/parks-powdermill.php
