Built and opened in 2010. There are 30 floors with around 21 studios, studio plus and suites (1 or 2 bedrooms) on each floor, thus the entire apartment contains about 600+ units. Originally built as a student dormitory, most units at UC apartments have been sold to private buyers which are then leased out to tenants whom are mostly students. There is a medium sized swimming pool on the ground level right behind the apartment complex that operates from 6am to 8pm.

UC Apartment employs 14 security guards (satpam) with 3 shifts on a 24 hour basis. Each shift is overseen by 4 guards. Morning shifts starts from 7am - 3pm, Afternoon shifts starts from 3pm - 11pm. Overnight shifts starts from 11pm - 7am. There are also engineers working the same 3 shifts providing top up prepaid electricity services for all units 24 hours a day.

CCTV cameras are installed throughout UC Apartment including the lobby, swimming pool, lifts and public toilet areas. Tenants are required to register their fingerprints to be able to enter the premises and use the elevators to enter their units. Security is considered extremely tight compared to most residential areas in Surabaya.

Rental prices for units range from Rp 2,500,000 (US$250) for a studio to Rp 5,000,000 (US$500) for a 2 bedroom suite per month. 6 months worth of rental must be paid before tenants can move in. Electricity usage is controlled through a prepaid token device. Water utility bill for each unit can be paid at the end of every month.

A few things to know about living here. Unlike in western countries, private apartments like UC apartments and many commercial buildings in Surabaya are heavily guarded by security guards due to the relatively high crime rate in Surabaya. To some it may feel secure, but for many foreigners, privacy and freedom would be severely lacking. Remember, you are being watched constantly as soon as you step outside. Guards love to gossip on just about everything and they may seem friendly and curious at first. Overtime, it does become irritating to be constantly looked at by guards and other workers. It is highly advisable to stay in your unit at all times as Indonesia is dangerous country.
