The Lagusnilad is the Philippines' first vehicular underpass. Named after the Tagalog term "lagús" ("to pass"; cf. "lagusan", "passageway") and "nilad" (Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea), the plant that is the supposed origin of the city's name, it is often completely submerged during the monsoon season.
