St. Scholastica's Convent - Baguio City (Baguio)

Philippines / Cordillera / Tuding / Baguio
 retreat centre (spiritual), convent

St. Benedict’s Rule advises special concern for the sick and the elderly. Because of its invigorating climate, the Manila Priory, set up a house for the sick in Baguio in 1917. Additional rooms were annexed later on when St. Scholastica’s Convent became the home of our aging Sisters, especially our German sisters.

As the Sisters in the priory grew in number, the convent in Baguio became not just a home for our elderly Sisters and a favoured vacation place during the summer months but also the venue for retreats and conferences. Because of this, Sister Assumpta Filser, the prioress in the 1960’s initiated the construction of a building with enough rooms to accommodate the Sisters for various purposes. Unfortunately, the strong earthquake of 1990 destroyed this building. The present structure of St. Scholastica’s Convent that was built after the earthquake provided our aging and sick Sisters with better facilities befitting their health condition.
