Kites are traps of piled-rock walls that guide animals into smaller enclosures with camouflaged structures (hides) where the hunters lie in wait. Hundreds of kites were built in Jordan's Basalt Desert as early as the 7th millennium BC through the beginning of the 5th millennium BC to hunt predominantly gazelles. Kites are so named for resembling flying kites when seen from the air
