Back in the old days it was used for coal train service from Tanjung Enim. The train used to ran in "merry-go-round" fashion between Tanjung Enim and Kertapati. With the introduction of balloon loop in Tarahan, The "merry-go-around" service still remain to this day on Tanjung Enim-Tarahan route. But the Kertapati's balloon loop was dismantled sometime in 1980s. The coal train service to Kertapati had to unload its coal in a rather conventional manner.
