The City of Walnut is incorporated in Crawford County, Kansas. It was founded in 1871.
Built on the route of the Missouri Kansas Texas (Katy) Railroad.
Initially called Glenwood, but changed in 1874 to Walnut (the Walnut Post Office was established at the site in 1871).
The name Walnut came from the nearby Big Walnut Creek.
The population in July 2015 was 219.
