The Hundru Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Ranchi district. Located in Angada block the place is almost 50kms on the purulia road. The river falls from a height of 320 feet. A mini hydel power unit is also located here which uses the water stored in the Getalsud reservoir to run its turbines. En route Hundru one can see the reservoir on the left with picturesque hills in the background. The whitish trail seen in this map are the stairs leading to the bottom from where one can see the water falling down. After the construction of the reservoir the fall is narrowed because of fall in the volume of water. Ideal time therefore is to visit the falls at the end of the monsoon season on some sunny day. Never visit on a rainy day as the rocks are slippery. The Jharkhand Tourism Development Corp. has recently built a guest house and is busy constructing the road connecting the fall to the purulia road. This road almost a 15 km stretch is currently in a wretched state but under construction. Fooding is available at the 4 hotels located close to the guest house. Locals sell lemon tea, nimbu pani and traditional woodwork handicrafts on the stairs that lead to the bottom.

  • good place
  • When I was a student in Ranchi from 1953-1955 I have visited this place many times with my friends. Later in 1961, I again went to see the Hudru Falls. It must be the most beautiful waterfall in the Chhotonagpur plateau. I had seen many more waterfalls later in my life in different parts of the world but Hudru was the first big waterfall I had ever seen in my life and for this reason this place is very special for me.
