On Jan. 6, 1918, Chatham Naval Air Station was commissioned to protect Cape Cod & the surrounding areas. The station was mainly used by blimps and Curtiss "Flying Boats." The station was closed in 1922. a single memorial and part of the old seaplane apron remain on Strong Island Rd. in Chatham, MA.
