Shujatpur is the ancestral village of the chieftains of the Langah clan. The Langahs were the rulers of Multan until 1528 AD, when Shah Hassan Arghun of Sindh in alliance with the Mughals defeated and evicted them from the city. The fleeing nobles of the Langah family then came and settled in the Sutlej delta at the village that was later called Shujatpur. This village became a sizeable town but was razed later on the orders of Aurangzeb Alamgir on the charges of having given refuge to Dara Shikoh. It was rebuilt as a settlement which it remains still. It is the seat of power of the Langah family of Jalalpur Pirwala. Sardar Mureed Abbas Khan Langah is the most famous scion of Shujatpur in contemporary times because of his active interest and permanent success in politics.
