Santa Fe de la Laguna is an indigenous community on the north shore of Lake Patzcuaro. It was established as a hospital pueblo by Vasco de Quiroga in the 1500's. The people are Purhepecha and speak the Purhepecha language. The economy is based largely on the sale of arts and crafts.
