Barmas is the suburb of Gilgit city, Which is only 1 Km away from the nucleus of city. It is an oldest place of Gilgit. Inhabitant of this area settled here before 17th century. Barmas consist in seven villages namely Barmas Balla, Barmas Paien, Barmas Nagral, Khur, Sami Muhallah and Fitdass. Total population of whole area calculate approx as; more than 5000 or may be more or less. People here belongs to Shin, Yashkun and Kamin cast. However apart from the cast and sect people have good relation and brother hood among them selves. The area is situated an altitude of 4400' from sea level. Due to its high location than other part of Gilgit one can have a panoramic vies of whole Gilgit Town. From East side you can enjoy a beautiful scene of Air port area, Majina Mohallah, Kashrot, Nagral, Jutyal, Khumher up to mountain of Nanga Parbar ranges. While towards the west side an aerial view of rest part of Gilgit can be seen. Being a rich agricultural land almost all types of fruit is available. You can find here a spring at cradle of Barmas mountain lies exactly center and for end of the area. From where you can start your travel to Barmas Nallah (Jangle). Through this Nallah a stream is passing almost throughout the year. At the top of mountain and in the valley there are a lot of beautiful spots. Eye catching views from the top of mountain. Happokar is the one of the spot from where we can see whole Gilgit looking below and almost all hill tops of renown mountain such as Rakapohsi, Sasi Sumari, Nanga Parbat. The important point to be noted that is; from Hapukar three great mountain ranges can easily be observed. At last I would say it is a focal point and fort for Whole Gilgit. No doubt "people belongs to this area are most peaceful and brave, no body can defeat them'.
