The ruined castle of Bilecik, located on a rocky hill east of the town. Contrary to a longstanding assertion in historiography, it is not likely to be identical with Byzantine Belokome, which was somewhere near the Bithynian coast (C. Foss, The Beginnings of the Ottoman Empire, London, 2022: 135-136). Nievertheless, BIlecik played an important role during the initial stages of Ottoman history.
