Introduction and Background to the University
• The initiative to set up a new university in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State goes back to 12 April 2005 when Vice President of the Republic of Sudan (Prof. Moses Machar) paid a visit to Aweil , the capital of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State
• The Vice President announced on behalf of the President of the Republic the decision to establish a University in Aweil
• The ‘pledge’ was reiterated by the First Vice President, and President of GOSS (Lt. Gen. Salva K. Mayardit) in his visit to the area in 2006
• Appointment of Vice Chancellor by Presidential degree No. 99 for 2010 and rectification of University Act 2010 in June 2010
• Appointment of the Principal, Academic Secretary, andFinancial Controller, Personnel Secretary, Deans for 4 Faculties, and support staff in December 2010.
• Opening of a coordination office for the University was opened in Arkweet, Khartoum in January 2011.
• February 2011, the establishment of Administration Office for University was in Aweil
• February 2011, the Northern Bahr El Ghazal Authorities grant two sites for the University in western outskirts of Aweil (one in Mathiang measuring 1km x 1km and the other in Warjok measuring 2km x 1 km in area)
• In February 2011, academic programmes for faculties of Architecture and Physical Planning, Petroleum Engineering and Minerals, Health Sciences and Medical Technology, and Human Resource Development reach their final stages of development.
• The University aims to admit its first batch of students in October 2011.
