Below the level of the cathedral, this dates from the start of the 14C and its white marble facade, in a Gothic style harsher even than the cathedral's, was never finished. Inside, the baptismal fonts made up of a hexagonal vessel adorned with bronze gilded panels on top of a stunning marble tabernacle were created following drawings by Jacopo della Quercia. It is quite clearly one of the great successes of Tuscan sculpture during the transition period from Gothic to Renaissance.
