The Roman fort Gholaia "[...] was excavated between 1967 and 1980. It is one of two completely in mint condition preserved Roman castella in Libya (the other is Gheriat el-Garbia); Together they were part of the Limes Tripolitanus. Among the more imaginative discoveries include a large collection of inscribed fragments (ostraca), which shed light on the daily routine in a Roman camp."
