observatory, research, lab, weather / meteorological station
Maintained by New Zealand's Scott Base, this lab houses remote sensing and direct air sampling equipment for scientific study of the atmosphere and magnetosphere. Activities include ozone and other trace gas monitoring, low-frequency radar studies and auroral research. The remote location (Arrival Heights) minimizes chemical and electromagnetic interferences from Scott and McMurdo bases. The building was completed in 2006 in replacement of a much smaller building nearby.
