NYU School of Professional Studies (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / East 12th Street, 7
 university, Modern (architecture)

177-foot, 12-story university building completed in 1948. Designed by Harrison & Abramovitz as an office building for Fairchild Publications, a fashion publisher of W and Women’s Wear Daily magazines. It was acquired in 1992 by NYU to house administrative offices. In 2011, they hired Mitchell/Giurgola Architects to renovate it.

The renovation included installing transparent curtainwall of lustrous glass, with a cantilevered canopy, also of glass, over the entrance. The open design features a dichroic glass, whose colors shift with changes in the light and viewing angle. The façade, which is framed with what look like stone accents on either side, is inflected with metal flanges at various points across its surface.

The building now houses the School of Continuing & Professional Studies.
