Building 136 houses workshop and storage space for metalworking, plumbing and electrical trades. Each shop is equipped with standard tooling as well as floor and bench space for the type of fabrication and repair work required to maintain McMurdo Station's facilities and utilities. The two-story, steel-framed building was originally constructed in 1964 to house a diesel-generator power plant, and was remodeled in 1983 as a temporary heavy vehicle maintenance facility.
