The chapel stands on the site of the former Lyons Station Stagecoach Stop. The Butterfield Stage Company began using Phinneas Banning's road (built by Banning in 1855 to connect Los Angeles and Fort Tejon) in 1858. Lyons was originally known as Hart's Station and was acquired by the Lyon brothers in 1855.
