Owned and operated by the Commissioners of Allen County, the War Memorial Coliseum stands as a living memorial to the nation's war veterans. Originally opened in 1952, the coliseum and adjoining exposition center have been expanded and renovated several times, most recently in 2014. The 13,000-seat Allen County War Memorial Coliseum is one of the busiest venues of its size in the country.

The NBA's Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons played at the Coliseum from 1952 to 1957 until the team's move to Detroit. Today, the Coliseum is home to three semi-professional sports franchises: the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League, and the Fort Wayne Derby Girls of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2.

The 108,000 square-foot Memorial Coliseum Expo Center is the largest multi-purpose exhibition hall in the tri-state area, hosting numerous annual tradeshows, meetings, banquets, receptions, and sales. The Appleseed Ballroom and the Red, White, and Blue Rooms at the Memorial Coliseum host smaller receptions, banquets, and seminars.

The Memorial Coliseum has hosted such events as the NBA All-Star Game (1953), Elvis Presley's next-to-last concert (1977), and the Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls Basketball State Finals (2010-2011). Memorial Coliseum has also hosted five United States Presidents; Harry S Truman (1958), Richard Nixon (1970), Gerald Ford (1976), Ronald Reagan (1978), and Donald Trump (2018).
