Skjærhalden is the administrative centre of Hvaler municipality, Norway. It is located on the island Kirkeøy. Its population (SSB 2005) is 642.
The number of "inhabitants" critically rise during summer, when busloads of people from the rest of Norway come to live in their summer houses. Many inhabitants are sceptical to outsiders, but there are some that find this behaviour unreasonable and are more interested in meeting strangers, and get new friends.

During summer, you will never see the water cleared of boats, no matter how the weather is. During a sunny day, there will be constantly at least 30 boats or more in your wiew, looking towards the horizon towards denmark. (Rest assured you have a decent scouting spot)

A very popular shopping town for Norwegians living at / visiting Hvaler is Strömstad (in Sweden), which is only a short boattrip away in a southeastward direction.
