Founded in 1558 by Joan of Schoonbeke. It was a refuge for orphan boys who learned a hand-craft. In the courtyard there is an authentic preserved plastered rear, with protective roof leaning on freestone columns of 1618.
The former 'knechtjeshuis' became protected architectural heritage in 1981.
In 2006 the building was restored.
