Originally a historic estate along Ocean Avenue, it was purchased in the 1940's by James H. 'Jimmy' Van Alen, who owned 'Avalon' next door. Van Alen demolished the main house (which had been destroyed by a fire) and turned the entire estate into hunting grounds for his guests when they came to visit. Monthly, the grounds were stocked with a wide range of deer, moose, geese and birds.
Sold on Mrs Van Alen's death in 2002, it was later acquired by the city.
