The Far Westside contains many historic one and two family homes and is a popular place to live for young adults, often renting for the first time. Forty-four percent of the housing in this neighborhood is owner occupied. The neighborhood has a strong history of Irish, Polish, and Ukrainian traditions. Two distinct areas of the Far Westside are Tipperary Hill, encompassing the Burnet Park area, and the West End, situated north of West Genesee to Emerson and Avery Avenues.

Tipperary Hill, otherwise known as "Tipp Hill", makes up half of the Far Westside. It was largely settled by immigrants from Ireland, especially from County Tipperary. It includes the only traffic signal light in the country that is inverted (green light at the top) at the corner of Tompkins Street and Milton Avenue, in the center of "Tipp Hill."

The primary commercial corridor and major thoroughfare in the Far Westside neighborhood is West Genesee Street. Small pizza shops, barbershops, butcher shops, gift shops and floral shops are found throughout this area.

Burnet Park is located in this neighborhood and features the Rosamond Gifford Zoo as well as a nine hole golf course, an ice skating rink, swimming pool, and baseball diamonds, all owned and maintained by the City Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs. Lewis Park, located between Herkimer and Lewis Streets, has two baseball fields, a playground, and basketball court, which is used by the neighbors as well as the West End baseball leagues.
