Gautmeshwar has a history going back few centuries when Muslim rulers tried to destroy the Shiv Linga and rest of temples when the giant bees from top of the hill attacked the soldiers who had to flee. the attacker ruler then rebuild the temple, hence it is still in the Muslim mosque design. The Shiv Linga is still cracked and bees can still be seen stuck to the combs above the temple. An annual fair(Mela) is organised in May which is worth seeing.
