Oigawa Maru as an Imperial Japanese Army Transport sunk at this location on the morning of March 3rd, 1943 during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. Suffering direct hits from both bombs and torpedoes, all 78 crewmen and 1,151 troops of the IJA's 51st Division were lost with the ship.
