The Pemberton Memorial Chapel was gifted by Teresa Jane Despard Pemberton, née Grautoff, as a memorial to her husband Joseph Despard Pemberton, the first Surveyor General for Vancouver Island, ". . . for the benefit of patients of all denominations and their friends."
