archaeological site, listed building / architectural heritage, ancient ruins
The ruined site of the ancient town of Kelenderis are located on the Cilician coast southwest of modern Aydıncık (previously called Gilindere) in the Mersin province of Turkey. The town dates back to at least the 8th century BC, and was eventually a Samian colony (like Nagidos to its west), later part of the Delian League, of the Ptolemaic Empire, of the Roman Empire, the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, and the emirate of Karaman, before being conquered by Ottoman Turkey
