Gunung Umsini is located in Papua peninsula, 50 km south of Manokwari, a town of 50,000 people. It is at the northern end of north end of the Arfak Range. The mountain has been previously listed as a volcano, but is lack of eruption products, general morphology indicate is is not a volcano.
Papua (previously Irian Jaya) does not contain any active volcanoes. This is surprising, considering it is located between two heavily populated volcanic regions. A large earthquake (mag 6.4) occurred 60 km north of the mountain on 7th January 2008.
