church, cemetery, lutheran church/kirk, place of worship, 13th century construction
Järva County’s oldest church in Ambla was completed in the 13th century. The church has a simple exterior, and the interior has three naves. The medieval furnishings of the Ambla Church were destroyed during the Livonian War. The church has the oldest high belfry of a rural church. During the summer, you can visit the Ambla Church from Friday to Sunday. The Latin name of the church “Ampla Maria” is derived from the name of its location – Ambla. In the churchyard, there is a grave monument entitled “Boy with a Poppy” and a monument to the War of Independence. The current steeple was built in 1857 and is 49.5 m high.
