The Command and Staff College- "Pum"- is the most elite instructional institution existing in the IDF system and is used by all three military arms (navy, ground and air) of the army. The college includes general studies and lessons geared exclusively to each military arm's specific requirements. The educators at the college are officers from the rank of Lieutenant up to the rank of Colonel. The Staff and Command College first opened its doors on the 31st of May, 1954, following a year of initial preparation. In 1962, the national defense college was established in Jerusalem.
Order of Battle

Organization and Logistics Branch:
This branch is responsible for all logistical services for the courses- in order to provide a better learning atmosphere. The branch is responsible for the adjustment of manpower into the college and for establishing a security system for the school, implementing construction projects, and maintaining the surroundings.

Instructional branch:
The instructional branch promotes a more professional learning atmosphere through advanced computer systems, technological instructional tools and advice from civilian lecturers. The branch works with the computer department allowing for numerous and diverse lessons to be taught through computer programs.

Physical fitness:
The physical fitness and learning in the staff and command and college is part of the integrative military learning in the college. It is an integral part in shaping the character and image of military personnel during their time of study in the staff and command college, during their command in the IDF and for their future civilian life. The program combines theoretical study, practical implementation and designated training for officers' physical fitness and other fitness needs in the army.
