The cast iron lighthouse originally known as the Bridgeport Breakwater, was erected in 1895. Lighthouse and was located approximately 275 feet south east of its present location. It was moved in 1919 when the breakwater was shortened. It was automated in 1954. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
