Kumul (Qumul) or Hami (Uyghur: قۇمۇل, Qumul, K̡umul, Chinese: 哈密; Pinyin: Hāmì) is an oasis in Hami Prefecture, Xinjiang (China); it is also the name of a modern city and the surrounding district. It is well known in China as the home of the famously sweet Hami melons.
Qumul is also the location where many of the Tarim Mummies have been found. Dating of these mummies indicate they are of the era 1800 to 500 BCE. The older ones show Caucasoid features, while the more recent ones show Caucasoid and Mongolian features. See also: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarim_mummies
