Mui Wo is a rural town on the eastern coast of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The main beach in Mui Wo is known as Silver Mine Bay.
Ferries to and from all major island ports (including Hong Kong Island) dock here. Two types of ferry service are available, fast and slow. The slow ferry is an older 2 or 3 deck ferry with no windows (although some ferries now have an enclosed, air-conditioned 'deluxe' compartment. The slow ferry takes 50 minutes to or from Central, HK Island. The fast ferry is a more modern ferry. Upper & lower decks, enclosed windows and air-conditioned throughout. The fast ferry takes 30 minutes either direction. Soft drink machines and toilets are available on both.
Mui Wo is the main ferry terminal this side of Lantau Island. There is a bus terminus opposite the ferry pier and buses run to most parts of the island, including Tung Chung, Pui O and the airport. Blue taxi cabs are available here also for journeys on Lantau only.
Some of the residential buildings in Mui Wo have rental apartments available and there are a couple of booths near the ferry pier entrance where you can arrange short term rental of one. A short walk away, alongside the harbour, several good seafood restaurants are open all day and serve good quality and affordable seafood based Chinese food. Walking further along the harbour to the right will bring you to the Silvermine Bay Hotel, the post office, wet market, indoor swimming pool, sports centre, hospital and many other amenities.
