US 101 at this spot has a wide median. This median was the where the proposed interchange with the Beverly Hills freeway was to be contructed. The BH freeway would have began at I-405 where Santa Monica blvd (signed as CA 2)accesses I-405, heading Northeast bound through the western parts of LA & Beverly Hills and connected to CA route 2, the Glendale freeway, which currently ends just north of downtown LA at Glendale blvd.
