Woodwick House (long since demolished)built 1648 belonged to the McLellans until c.1700 when it passed to branch of Traill family. It was built on a private bay that is home to hundreds of petrified willow stumps visible at low tide. The willow forest is evidence of the once much lower sea level and of an ancient village nearby that used the willows for construction and heating.
The new house at Woodwick was built in 1912 along with a mill for the grinding of grains and a Victorian generator in the burn which is still visible in the gardens today. The house was used as an army hospital during WWII and a hotel after the war.
