The Isle of May National Nature Reserve

United Kingdom / Scotland / Anstruther /
island, nature conservation park / area

This island is highly visible from the south coast of Fife. It is a National Nature Reserve managed by Scottish Natural Heritage. Visitors are welcome. Boat trips are available from Anstruther during the summer. No overnight accommodation. The island is home in summer to many tens of thousands of breeding seabirds including terns, gulls, puffins and gulls; and in autumn to hundreds of calving grey seals. Visitors are met on landing by the reserve wardens and are requested to keep to the network of paths across and around the island to prevent damage and death to burrow nesting puffins.
