Song Kou township (松口镇）is situated in the north-east of Mei County (梅县), currently the home place of many Hakka people. Once, Song Kou was a bustling port on the Mei river (梅江）since it was here that many overseas Chinese took the boat to start their journey overseas. From Song Kou, they would travel dwownstream to Shan Tou on the coast and then change to a larger boat to cross the oceans.
