The place where the naval cannons that won the Napoleonic wars were made, the place that wouldn't let Rabbie Burns tour, cause it was Sunday, the day of rest. It was once said that every household in the British Empire contained at least one item that was forged in furnesses of Carron. Some of it's famous Carronade cannons can still be seen as monument both at this site and on Stenhousemuir's main street.

One of Europe's great Iron Works, it opened in 1759 but closed after 223 years, in 1982 making thousands redundant. Metal working is still carried out on the site, but on a much smaller scale and rarely in iron.
