Salmon World is in Rakaia, the Salmon Capital of New Zealand, next to the beautiful Rakaia River in Mid Canterbury. The unique Salmon Tales building, shaped like a Salmon, is situated right next to the world famous Rakaia Giant Salmon on the side of State Highway One, only 40 minutes drive south of Christchurch

Salmon World is designed to appeal to all ages and nationalities and contains a number of unique and fascinating attractions with something for everyone, all based on the local Rakaia history of Salmon Fishing. The scenic Rakaia River is considered by many as the best salmon fishing river in New Zealand and Salmon World will let you experience this unusual New Zealand ecology. Our Education tour is perfect for children; we are also able to cater for school and educational groups.

Within Salmon World, we have our Salmon World Aquarium based on the environment of the Rakaia Gorge. This experience, containing a huge aquarium, pools and streams helps you understand and learn about the lifecycle of local salmon and hand feed a variety of local fish at certain times of the day.

Completely unique is our exciting Salmon World 4D film. Explore the excitment of adventures in the Rakaia Gorge, Rakaia River and Mid Canterbury Alps without leaving your seat.

Feeling hungry? Try Salmon Tales, our licensed Salmon Cafe and Restaurant which boasts exceptional coffee, and tasty food made using fresh local ingredients. Our menu covers a variety of dishes created with local salmon as well as non salmon alternatives. Relax and enjoy your coffee or food on our large outdoor deck overlooking the scenic outdoor salmon pond.
