memorial, place with historical importance
This place is purported to be the point where Kim Jong-Sook, mother of Kim Jong-Il who is a native of Hoeryong got on a boat and crossed the Tumangang River in order to join Kim Il-sung’s Anti-Japanese resistance movement based in Manchuria. Apart from memorial monuments depicting this episode, a small wooden boat purported to be the actual boat used on that occasion is kept on display. The area could be observed from Wangjiangge, a hilltop observation point overlooking the city of Hoeryong on the Chinese side (based on visit to the Chinese side in July 2012).
