memorial, Second World War 1939-1945, sculpture, place with historical importance, war memorial

The Battle, the regained freedom and the post-war reconstruction of Arnhem are symbolised by this Phoenix sculpture by Ossip Zadkine. The low wall by the water feature bears an inscription: 'This stone tablet tells that Arnhem was damaged by violence but has recovered its pride and glory after 20 years through the courage of it's citizens'. At the side of the Walburgstraat there is a low wall with a relief depicting the area of the Eusebius Church, the Duivelshuis and, later, the town hall in the years 1900, 1944 and 1968.
