In the centre of the Grand Parterre there is a round ground with sculptures and the Crowning Fountain. The fountain was designed by the architect Mikhail Zemtsov in 1725 and formed part of the fountain system of the Summer Garden. The fountain was located opposite the former main entrance of the Summer Garden from the side of Poteshnoye Field (nowadays the Field of Mars). The fountain was named Crowning as its jets formed a shape that reminded a crown.

The fountain was damaged by the flood in 1777, and in 1786 it was filled in. The fountain was recreated in 2010-2011 according to iconographic materials and archeological surveys. It has been decorated with gilded mascarons (decorative elements in the shape of a human or animal head) using a sample that was found in the Summer Garden in the 1960s and kept in the State Peterhof Museum-Reserve.
